Yee Sang / Lo Hei
Is a ‘prosperity toss’ salad, and is traditionally enjoyed in Singapore and Malaysia. It is a communal activity, where everyone must join in and toss the salad together with their chopsticks, all while wishing out loud the dreams and wishes for the year ahead, for yourself and others! It gets messy, but that’s part of the fun!
Each ingredient has a meaning as stated below:
Fish slices – Abundance and surplus through the year
Pomelo –Great prosperity, good fortune & good luck
Pepper & Five Spice – Attract great wealth & treasures
Oil – Wealth to flow in from every source possible
Shredded vegetables – Arrival of good luck in life & eternal youth
Sesame seeds/ Peanuts – House to be filled with gold and silver, business to flourish.
Golden crackers – Abundance of gold.
Plum sauce – May life always be sweet.
